The Derwent water tour is one of the most picturesque. It is another of the Lakeland's gems, with lots of interesting places to visit in Keswick. The landscape of the Northern Lake District is of spectacular glaciated scenery, ranging from the rugged central volcanic mountains to the smoother outlines and more open countryside.
Cumbria and the western Lake District is separated from central Lakeland by formidable mountain ranges, Cumbria's western fringe is much less visited by tourists. The Lake District is inspirational at any time of year. It has some delectable scenery, much quieter roads, and very enjoyable places to visit. Prices in this part compare very favourably with the central Lakes.
Coniston grew from the mineral wealth of copper which was found in the mountains and mined during the 18th & 19th Century's Coniston today is very much the Victorian mining village. Slate quarries can be also found in the area and a few are still worked. One of the beauties of Coniston is Coniston Water, with its wooded banks and little islands. A tour of this area would not be complete with taking in some of the sites of Beatrix Potter, who grew to love the natural Beauty of the Lake's.
